I posted about a week ago it would be nice to get this fixed before the
release, but no patches yet. Debian is still on 2.7.0.

It is very unfortunate such a big change occurred right before the release of the first octave version including it as a dependency as the sundials API had been more or less stable for many years before this last release...The changes to ode15 needed to make it compatible with the new API are quite substantial so I think it is not realistic to have this done in less than one month.c.
