I have built the octave-4.0.0-rc1 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (64bit).
The build was successful.

make check results:

Summary:

  PASS     12835
  FAIL         0
  XFAIL       14
  SKIPPED     64

Gui seems fine. I can open m file by octave gui editor.
