Perhaps for the future. It's too late for the 3.8 release.
Sure, I just wanted to confirm that Qt Style Sheets could be used for this purpose.
By the way I found that clicking the link to the 3.8-rc1 release candidate wipes the whole content of the news window out and returns the following warning in the command window:
Warning: QTextBrowser: No document for alpha.gnu.org/gnu/octave/octave-3.8.0-rc1.tar.gz
If I copy paste the link (alpha.gnu.org/gnu/octave/octave-3.8.0-rc1.tar.gz) in firefox, the tarball is downloaded. A wild guess : "browser->setOpenExternalLinks (true);" expects url beginning with either http:// or file://. Here the link should be prefixed with http so that firefox is called.
