rc1 and qt-gnuplot

Is it a known issue that octave (in gui mode) does not work
with qt-gnuplot?

I get
>> graphics_toolkit gnuplot
>> plot(randn(3))
warning: broken pipe
warning: broken pipe
warning: broken pipe
warning: broken pipe
warning: broken pipe

and no plot windows.
