make fails on osx 10.6.8

Since the latest changes to gnulib I cannot build anymore on OSX 10.6.8, I get 
the following failure message:

libtool: link: ccache g++ -dynamiclib  -o .libs/libcruft.0.dylib ...
Undefined symbols:
  "_fdopendir", referenced from:
      _rpl_getcwd in libgnu.a(getcwd.o)
ld: symbol(s) not found
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[2]: *** [libcruft.la] Error 1
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make: *** [all] Error 2

Anyone else is seeing this? any suggestions how to proceed?
