For those who might be interested porting and optimizing Octave for ARM,
we have optimized versions of FFTW 3.2.2 and ATLAS 3.8.4, including
assembly kernels, in beta now. They're available at
www.vesperix.com/arm, along with build instructions and benchmarks,
under the same open source licenses as the original packages.

A tablet with a Cortex A9 (like the Samsung Galaxy Tab) is about the
speed of a desktop workstation from 2000, so it could be a lot more than
just a toy. If there is any interest in an optimized ARM port
(especially to Android), please let us address@hidden, and
we'd be happy to help with the floating point library side of the port.
