Can you elaborate on the "better" part? If you just like an anti-aliased look
than you can try to convince gnuplot to use e.g. wxt terminal instead of
plain vanila (and fast!) x11 terminal. E.g. by starting octave this way:
GNUTERM="wxt" octave
