This is what we were (at least I was) talking about. We don't really know if the Octave package system is suited for creating packages for distributions, until some distributions actually distribute Octave-forge packages. If we need to change the package system it would be best if we do it before Octave 3.0. I don't really think we can call the package system stable until some distributions actually use it, which is why some of us want to see distributions picking it up before Octave 3.0. Hopefully, the work by Orion will result in Fedora packages of the Octave-forge package, will prove that the package system is suited for creating RPM/deb packages...
