There are two issues I need clarification on:

1. Will the 'alien' archiving utility be appropriate for creating the desired
Octave-related binaries? If I recall correctly, can convert between several
package management approaches, including Redhat's rpm, Slackware's tgz, and
(now-defunct?) Stampede's slp.

2. What does M-F-T mean?
