Follow-up Comment #11, bug #55240 (project octave):

Torsten, it turned out to be the cset by you of Dec 13:
2355f66cf91d allow to select the gui style in the preferences dialog.

I'd suggest to NOT backout that cset, just leave there and let's see what can
be done about the issue at hand.

(I know next to nothing about Qt so the following is flagrant guesswork:) 
Maybe hunk #5 in main-window.cc ? I see no replacement for that code.
Maybe somehow the style "Windows" isn't picked up or inintialized properly? As
I wrote in comment #2 and comment #10 I didn't see much difference between the
four styles.
