Follow-up Comment #18, bug #55029 (project octave):
I assume you have a Mercurial clone of the development branch. Try updating
to the parent of the problem changeset.
hg update -r 511295347a27^
The '^' asks Mercurial for the parent of the named revision.
Once there, build as usual, run-octave, try pause() and see if it hangs.
