Follow-up Comment #2:

Item #4 has been addressed.

Item #3, accepting a number for a string property, I would consider "Won't
Fix".  It is easy enough for the programmer themselves to use num2str and that
way there was conscious intent by the programmer to have this particular
behavior.

Items #1, #2, and #5 are valid.
