I pushed a changeset here:

I rather arbitrarily chose to advance to the next multiple of 4 times the
width of the space character of the currently selected font. If that should
turn out to be a bad/incompatible choice, we can always change that later.
I am also attaching a screenshot of the example in comment #0.
Marking as ready for test.
