Follow-up Comment #8, bug #53536 (project octave):
Same behaviour for stable and default branch.
Just realized that the "--force-gui" option is no longer listed by "--help".
Should it be removed from the code as "--gui" works fine?
(Apologies for not consulting the hg docs about branches)
