Thanks, I missed the screenshots.

What I can't tell from your output is if you tested with this patch with
JAVA_VERSION not set and with Java 9 installed?

I see that you tested with JAVA_VERSION set to "9.0.4" with Java 8 installed,
which correctly failed, and you tested with JAVA_VERSION set to "9.0.4" with
Java 9 installed.

If you test with Java 9 installed with no JAVA_VERSION set, and you get the
same error message

error: javaObject: could not find library or dependencies: C:\Program
Files\Java\jre-9.0.4\bin\server\jvm.dll

with or without JAVA_VERSION set, then that at least means this patch is
working correctly for what it was intended to do.

What may not be working is that once Octave finds the path to the jvm.dll, it
can't load it.

Does that file actually exist at that location on your system when you install
Java 9?
