Follow-up Comment #14, bug #53409 (project octave):
Mint is based on Ubuntu LTS. Ubuntu 16.04 LTS froze two years ago on Qt 5.5.1.
Qt 5.6 is marked as LTS by the Qt project, but wasn't released until March
2016, too late to get into Ubuntu's LTS.
The upcoming Ubuntu 18.04 LTS will have Qt 5.9.4, so that's what Ubuntu and
Mint users will have for the next two years. Qt 5.9 is marked as an LTS
release by the Qt project.
