Follow-up Comment #2, bug #53370 (project octave):
Sorry I didn't get back earlier, had to set up a login, and Internet
connection is flaky at the moment ...
Windows 8.1.
I tend to not go with installers, I prefer to have tighter control on what
software is possibly doing to my m/c - which probably silly thinking these
days(!!), but anyway ...
It has since turned out that running the .vbs files did the job nicely, but
failed using the .bat. Which is different from the prior 4.2.1 zip extract
install - that just ran straight up,
