Follow-up Comment #25, bug #53046 (project octave):

A first comment on focus: I have changed the detection of the currently
focused dock widget of the main window yesterday
(http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/860860e2e69e) because of some
issues with the documentation widget. The new version should be safe in a
sense that it should not interfere with the dock widgets of the variable
editor. For the old version, I am not 100% sure.

The focusChanged signal is already used in the main window for detecting the
currently active dock widget. We could introduce a signal that is emitted each
time the variable editor gets or loses focus in order to prevent handling many
focus change signals that aren't related to the variable editor at all.
