Details:

Currently the variable editor (V.E.) has tabs that the user can switch
between.  See if it is possible to "undock" those tabs so that there can be
multiple tables in the V.E. at once.  This is how the main window behaves:
when there are "Command Window", "Editor" tabs, for example, one can grab/drag
these sub-windows and then become visible at the same time.

There will be just one V.E. toolbox, of course, so there needs to be a way to
indicate which variable table is active.  I suggest making the octave
tab/window have a white background while the non-octave ones have a gray
background.
