Actually, my patch doesn't appear to work for 


bar (1:10)


I think it would be useful to understand how many objects Matlab returns from
bar.  Is it based on groups, or columns?


h = bar (1:4)
numel (h)
h2 = bar ([1 2], [1 2 3 4; 5 6 7 8], 'stacked')
numel (h2)
