Follow-up Comment #31, bug #51830 (project octave):

I found something that reliably makes uname.nodename to return the correct
name even if the same Octave instance gave localhost before. It's a strange
work around, but here it is:  If I go to the menu and open News->Community
News, then the next (and folllowing) calls to uname work.
