Follow-up Comment #29, bug #51632 (project octave): I agree that 'going truly portable' is probably worth a separate discussion elsewhere. the problem is either (1) actually let people know what to do, (2) remove the need for them to do anything. (1) gets into the fact that the wiki is poorly linked from the main Octave and download pages. I see a link at the bottom of the main page, and a couple scattered Wiki links to the 'how to use' pages. Nothing to installation notes pages. (2) Since the zip version's kind of a hack anyway, would the comment #17 proposal make this all a non-discussion? portability, Octave documentation/linking/wiki etc could be another issue for another day. Alternatively, could mxe-octave add a line of text somewhere within the Octave welcome message (no idea what file that is) saying: "You are using the Window zip package. On first use and anytime you change the Octave location you will need to run 'pkg rebuild' to access installed packages" this will guarantee it's there for people to see. _______________________________________________________ Reply to this item at: <http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?51632> _______________________________________________ Message sent via/by Savannah http://savannah.gnu.org/
