Follow-up Comment #25, bug #51329 (project octave): Well, this whole thread is about something that fails with --traditional but shouldn't, because it turns off an Octave optimization that didn't have a workaround. Can you provide an example of something that should error out in Matlab, but doesn't in Octave without --traditional? I believe Matlab still let's you specify ranges, it just doesn't store them as such. Similar for diagonal_ and permutation_matrix.
