I attached an updated patch with a cleaner (but equivalent) approach, and the
changelog.

@Philip: I'll have some time in the coming days to work on Octave  (and the
movie function that is almost useless getframe). Do you think you'll have a
chance to test the patch on Windows soon or should I ask for testing on the
maintainers list?
