Follow-up Comment #2, bug #49755 (project octave):
Attached is a patch that fixes this issue on dev. It might be considerable to
also backport this to stable.
It also might make sense to throw an error when setting the PlotBoxAspectRatio
to a value <=0 instead of rendering rubbish.
I will work on a patch for this if noone beats me to it.
