Follow-up Comment #22, bug #49609 (project octave):

When Unity recovers, is it the same Octave session or a new instance of
Octave? What does `getpid` return in Octave before and after?

Has anyone been able to determine in what way is Octave exiting? Is there a
specific signal or exit status? And why is this exit condition causing certain
desktop environments to exit and/or restart themselves, maybe on certain
distributions?
