Follow-up Comment #24, bug #39314 (project octave): The original issue of this bug report has been mostly (but not yet fully) solved in Octave 4.2.0. My results on the code in comment #0 are now all below 7e-18 (those differences to Matlab were ~2e-5 originally). But the slight imprecision in convolutions (of dimension > 2) is still present.
