Follow-up Comment #12, bug #49222 (project octave): Philip, attached is a patch which adds the conversion in both directions. I only added the conversion for xls2oct and oct2xls because I am not sure which file formats would actually need it. But it should be pretty straight forward to add it for *.ods as well. I also don't know whether it is a good idea to unconditionally decode from UTF-8. Is it possible that the source file uses a different codepage?
