Follow-up Comment #1:

Thanks for the bug report. What versions of gcc and SuiteSparse is your Octave
built against? Which exact test is it hanging on? Run "more off; test
libinterp/dldfcn/chol.cc-tst verbose" to see the tests printed as they are
done.

It may be that the version of SuiteSparse you are using is too old for changes
made recently in Octave 4.
