For:
color{[1 0 0]}{Hello world}
TeX says:

! Undefined color `[1 0 0]'.
@address@hidden #1#2->errhelp {#2}errmessage {#1}
                                                 
@declaredcolor ...olor @#1endcsname address@hidden }
                                                  ignorespaces 
l.8 color{[1 0 0]}
                   {Hello world}')
?

There is not much chance that Matlab compatibility is
involved here, so...
