Follow-up Comment #2, bug #47363 (project octave):
Thinking again, I'd say that I won't add smaller step sizes even in the first
iteration. The reason is that your example behaves opposite to usual cases of
real residual minimization, where the gradient gets smaller the nearer the
parameters get to a minimum. If step sizes should be a problem in some real
residual minimization example, we'd have to think about this again.
