                 Summary: Plotting freezes application

Details:

Operating system: Windows 8.1 Enterprise 64 bit
Restrictions: No admin rights (reason for zip file based installation)
Installation dir: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\prog\octave-4.0.0
Octave installation file: octave-4.0.0_0.zip
Startup command: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\prog\Octave-4.0.0\octave.vbs
--force-gui

Commands after successful startup:

x = 1 : 0.1 : 10;
y = x.^2;
plot(x,y)

The plot window opens but remains blank. On the attempt to close the plot
window, a Windows dialog pops up saying that Octave fails to respond. Octave
can only be closed this way. Only Therefore I would consider it a crash.

I would be more than happy to run within limits (no admin rights on this
computer) any diagnostics as recommended.

I am successfully using the same version installed via the installer on a
Windows 7 computer.
