Follow-up Comment #2, bug #46090 (project octave):

I thought I was having the same problem after a fresh install -- I tried to
plot a histogram of a vector w = [1 2 3 3 2] and it just seemed to be taking
forever.  I did some googling, found this page, and was about to log a "me
too" bug when I noticed the histogram had finally drawn itself.  Now, new
histograms are drawn instantaneously.  Maybe parts of the graphing library
only build themselves lazily?
