Update of bug #42444 (project octave):

Follow-up Comment #8:

So to try to draw this to a meaningful conclusion, please check the following
on your Fedora 17 x86_64 system:

* Is the pcre-devel package installed (yum install pcre-devel)?
* Is /usr/bin/pcre-config present? If not, reinstall pcre-devel.
* Is /usr/include/pcre.h present? If not, reinstall pcre-devel.
* Is /usr/lib64/libpcre.so present? If not, reinstall pcre-devel.

If those things are installed and all files I mentioned are present, and
running configure from scratch still gives you an error with PCRE, then there
may be a bug.

If the pcre-devel package is not installed or any of the files I listed are
missing, then you should take this to the help-octave mailing list instead to
figure out how to get a working PCRE setup.

Just FYI, Fedora 17 and 18 are now end-of-life, you might want to consider
upgrading to a supported version that will get continued security updates.
