Follow-up Comment #3:

This has been fixed on the development branch in this changeset
(http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/fc43c8017e9b).  It will be a part
of the 4.2 release, or the reporter can build from Mercurial sources to see
the fix sooner.
