Follow-up Comment #2, bug #42271 (project octave):
My .octaverc sets the 'DefaultTextInterpreter' property to 'none'. (That's why
I explicitly showed the setting of 'interpreter' in the example, so that you
could try to duplicate it with the interpreter disabled.)
If I run it with --norc, then I get subscripted 'b', but that is as expected.
In other words: The problem occurs only with interpreter = none.
