Update of bug #41321 (project octave):

                  Status:                    None => Invalid
             Open/Closed:                    Open => Closed

Follow-up Comment #1:

I very intentionally crafted hgignore to not ignore all the unnecessary files
that get created when building in-source. That way, if you decide to build
in-source, "hg purge" will clean up the files for the build that need to be
cleaned up, but leave the files that have to be in the build tree after
bootstrapping it.

I'm going to reject this patch. Instead, you should build out of source. Make
an external build directory, cd into, and do

/path/to/octave/source/configure --your --config --options

Also, consult etc/HACKING from the Octave tree.
