Follow-up Comment #3, bug #32617 (project octave):

The issue is still present.  The bug was filed against gnuplot printing of
TeX-formatted text since this is still the only way to get TeX hardcopy.  The
quickest way to see the difference is to look at the limits of the integral
("0" and "x") in the resulting pdf file.  In the 3.2.4 version they are
appropriately sized.  In 3.4.3 and onwards they are too small.  The change
happened a long time ago in the upgrade from 3.2.X to 3.4.X.
