I've migrated to Mac OS 10.9 and am also seeing the message below when I start
the gui.
013-12-02 22:27:14.530 octave-gui[51697:d07] CoreText performance note: Client
called CTFontCreateWithName() using name "Courier New" and got font with
PostScript name "CourierNewPSMT". For best performance, only use PostScript
names when calling this API.

breakpoint on CTFontLogSuboptimalRequest to debug.
