URL: <http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?40285> Summary: Community News pane should only access Internet when visible Project: GNU Octave Submitted by: philipnienhuis Submitted on: Wed 16 Oct 2013 11:45:13 PM CEST Category: GUI Severity: 3 - Normal Priority: 5 - Normal Item Group: Other Status: None Assigned to: None Originator Name: Philip Nienhuis Originator Email: Open/Closed: Open Discussion Lock: Any Release: dev Operating System: Any _______________________________________________________ Details: (nitty-gritty dept) Octave's Community News widget tries to access the Internet on each launch of Octave, even when it isn't visible. My firewall alarms me consistently for each new Octave build (it apparently keeps track of executable checksums). Now Octave is of course trusted; but I think it is better if Octave goes to the Web only if/when explicitly requested by the user. _______________________________________________________ Reply to this item at: <http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?40285> _______________________________________________ Message sent via/by Savannah http://savannah.gnu.org/
