Follow-up Comment #9, bug #38317 (project octave): Two things I noticed: MATLAB puts a 0 in "empty spots", but your solution tries to fit the elements into an array with the number of columns as the number of entries on the first line. (In MATLAB the number of columns corresponds to the number of entries on the line with most entries, it seems.)
