Follow-up Comment #12, bug #33523 (project octave):

Using more indices than dimensions makes perfect sense given that Matlab
strips trailing singleton dimensions.  So you might be forming x(n,m,p) and
computing the mean along the third dimension.  But sometimes p == 1 and x
appears to only have two dimensions.  I don't think that should be an error.
