Follow-up Comment #6:

After some testing (thanks, Joanna Cheng), it appears that this patch doesn't
fix the bug (but imo is an improvement, and should stay). In gnuplot the
__go_patch__ object errors out with this call and in OpenGL the colours are
wrong. This may be related to another observed when the colours of bars are
wrong in a histogram (I can't find the reference to that bug right now, or if
it has been filed).
