Follow-up Comment #15, bug #33018 (project octave): FYI I just built R from source. I don't like R, but it's the only thing I could think of that's a fair comparison to Octave for size and complexity. Really large is much harder than merely big. The only glitch was a dependency on Gnu libiconv. Otherwise the environment and configure arguments were the same as for Octave.
