Follow-up Comment #4, bug #32885 (project octave):

So as I see it, this is a corner case, but my patch seems to work on major
compilers. We could introduce the "right" patch that explicitly checks for
NaN, at the risk of introducing some inefficiency... or we could use this
patch which is likely to work for a long time on all major compilers.

My preference is for the latter option.
