and numerous others about this problem which has dated back to 2006? Making
the change in ARPACK seems impossible (though maybe in PARPACK it might be
possible). Getting a distribution to patch ARPACK themselves seems to best
route to me, and for this we need a self-contained ARPACK example
demonstrating the problem something I tried to do a few times, but never got
around to finalizing. I'd prefer this solution to patching Octave to
workaround a bug in ARPACK
