Follow-up Comment #3, bug #31474 (project octave):

Lest there be any doubt about my assertion that they were wrong, the
reference cited in my comment in the corrected scripts is attached.

This really isn't a bug.  It's a failure to understand the math.  Which given
the very basic nature of the operations is difficult to comprehend.
