That is normal, if you want to disable it, set it to -1.

That is weird. Which version of MySQL and nss-mysql are you running ?
You can compile nss-mysql in debug mode, the SQL query will then be
printed to the logs.  That way you can see if there is an error in your
configuration and if you think there is a MySQL bug.
