Maybe I wasn't clear with this:

I meant add internally, e.g.,

    cptr = fmt_findcomp ("fcc");
    if (! cptr) {
        fmt_addcompentry ("fcc");
        cptr = fmt_findcomp ("fcc");

    cptr->c_text = mh_xstrdup(fcc);

The current code does nothing if the first fmt_findcomp ("fcc")
returns NULL.
