Sounds good.
- With a new flag (-y or --viewify to make it clear what it's doing), force the buffer to be read only if we think the file is unwritable, and still throw the message on the statusbar.
Not so good, needless complication, can always make the file writable by other means anyway. Maybe OK if view mode is made a toggle but not sure about the wisdom of that.
